Any assistance and input would be of great help. I am a 22 yo old AA female. I'm considering Primary Rhinoplasty surgery to narrow the width of my nose some and add a little definition (specifically to the bridge).
I've consulted with Dr. Barek and somewhat impressed by his work. My concern, he would like to place a goretex implant in my nose rather than using grafts. Is this a good idea? I've heard that the implants can shift, can be noticeable and hard.
I've also consulted with doctor Thomas Romo III. Has anyone heard about him? I've seen that he's a plastic surgeon to the stars and considered one of the top Rhinoplasty Surgeons in Town & Country. Before Dr. Romo proceed, he suggested that I have an ex-ray of my nose and spoke in-depth regarding functionality as well as an aesthetic pleasing nose. I really appreciated the fact that he wanted to give me an aesthetic pleasing nose while obtaining maximum functionality, something no of the other surgeons mentioned. However, I've yet to view his before and after photos, however, they are readily available.
I've heard many praises regarding Dr. Tobais as well as Dr. Tabbal.
My question, does anyone have any suggestions for me? I really need help and my nose is beginning to disgust me. I've always hated it, it's round and wide. I feel as if it distorts my facial features and I would have better harmony with my face as I already have relatively thin lips, chin and eyes with this huge thing resting in the middle of my face.

I am in the same boat as you. My nose is wide, mostly the tip... its been described as boxy/bulbous. I considered Tobias but heard bad things about him. Have you heard anything about Constantinides? or Barek? I don't know who to go to either.

If you are planning to have it thinned Dr. Barek is the wrong doctor to go to, I know first hand and I live everyday with his disasterous results. Please go to another doctor.

Exactly, what happened with Doctor Barek? Did he make your nose too thin?

Dr. Barek widened my nose and shortened it and if he would have listened during the consultations that is everything that I did not want. I don't think that he know how to do many different procedures he can only do the "conservative" nose as he calls it. In the end he will not listen to what you want but what he feels like what he wants to do.

Hi,
I had surgery with Dr. Barek last May, I also had a wide fat nose, I believe he did the best he could with my nose. I hope that the shape of my nose will keep improving as time goes by. I won't show any pics because my nose looks worse in pics than in person.
If you are willing to go through this one thing you must have is patience. I dont want to scare anyone but the first two days after the surgery are the worst, you will throw-up all the blood you swallowed during surgery. I thought it was going to be painful and thank God it wasn't.
You can e-mail me at karen2676@msn.com and I'll be happy to answer any questions you might have about the surgery or about Dr. Barek.

I have heard many negative things about Barek as well as some about Tobias. Tabbal or Romo are probably your best bets. Have you looked into Pastorek? Quatela? Constantian? Toriumi? Dennenberg? or Becker as well? Jane, I'm not asian. But if you want a good NYC doctor try Pastorek, Tabbal, or Constantindes. I agree with your father that Tobias is too comercial, and many people who have posted on this board as well as other ones have not been very pleased with his work. Have you considered Dean Toriumi in Chicago?.. he has a pretty good reputation and being asian himself I imagine this might mean that he does well with asian noses ( ?). From before and after pictures of his work it seems that the guy can build noses from scratch!!! If I didn't live so far away, Toriumi would be the guy I would most like to go to. Either way good luck to you with your surgery and come back and let us know how it turned out
